STEM EXPLORATIONS-SEINING FOR SCIENCE

Scientists use seine netting to collect fish, snails, crabs, and other marine organisms from seagrass beds for examination and study.  In this hands-on activity students will head out on kayaks and find an appropriate location to use these same tools and techniques to collect samples, and take an up close look at the marine life that lives right here in Mission Bay.   Collected organisms will be placed in buckets where students will examine them to understand how they survive and thrive in in the bay before releasing them back into the wild.  During their examination the group will discuss how these creatures adapt to life in the ocean and specifically the bay.
