MBAC has a new way for you to earn your US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification that will allow you to maximize your time on the water. US Sailing has launched a Basic Keelboat Certification Blended Learning Course that allows you to learn and be tested on introductory sailing topics at your own pace before practicing the skills you learned online on the water.
This blended learning course will give you the chance to spend more of your time at MBAC on the water practicing skills as you will complete the vast majority of the classroom study at home at your own pace. In the end the course will require less in-person sessions and use the meeting times more efficiently. Each meeting session will begin with a brief review of the online material, and then will spend the rest of the time sailing and perfecting on-the-water skills.
Topics for this extensive sailing course include tacking, jibing, crew coordination, navigation rules, basic chart reading, sail theory, docking, mooring ball pickups, anchoring, reefing, heaving to, and crew overboard recovery. Upon completion you will be eligible to take a final written test to receive your US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification, which is included in the course fee.
The in-person portion of this class will meet Saturdays and Sundays December 2, 3, 9, 10 from 9am to 4pm with a one-hour lunch break each day. Sign up for this class here and start learning on your own schedule!
