POWERBOAT PRIVATE LESSON
Quickly improve your skills and confidence behind the wheel of a powerboat with a private powerboat lesson. This lesson is tailored to your specific on-the-water goals. Lessons are typically taught in a 17-foot Boston Whaler with a 90-horsepower outboard motor.
What Will I Learn?
Our instructors can give you individualized instruction based on your current boating experience. Before the private lesson begins, let your instructor know your goals for the day so they can work with you to achieve them. Participants will spend the majority of the time on the water behind the wheel working through various skills with the close guidance of the instructor onboard.
Common topics and goals include:
- Safety on the water
- Rules of the road
- Basic powerboat operation
- Close quarter maneuvering
- Docking
Is this the right class for me?
A Powerboat Private Lesson is a great choice for individuals who have little or no experience operating a powerboat. Typically, the session begins with a brief 15-20 minute classroom discussion covering some of the key powerboating concepts. The remainder of the lesson will be spent on the water with the primary focus being close-quarter maneuvering concepts and various docking scenarios.
Requirements
- Powerboat Private Lesson is an entry-level class with no required prerequisites or prior experience.
- This class is open to all participants aged 12 and up
- A general liability waiver is required to participate. Anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.
- Participants must acknowledge that they are water-safe (able to swim 50 meters and comfortably tread water).
How to Prepare
- Bring sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. MBAC has a water bottle refilling station and there are some restaurants nearby, but keep in mind that food and drink are not available for purchase at MBAC. Lockers and showers are available for customer use.
- Parking can be challenging at MBAC, especially during the summer or on nice weekends. Please visit our parking page for more information.
What's Next?
After participating in the Powerboat Private Lesson we encourage you to take another. More specific practice on the water will continue to improve your confidence behind the wheel of a boat. Another lesson can also dive into further topics such as: operating an inboard boat, anchoring, crew overboard, trailering, towing other boats, and more.
Rates
Rates above are for a 2-hour lesson (minimum). Additional hours will incur additional charges.
Additional persons are $20/hour per person, up to 3 participant maximum.
