For the second year, Mission Bay Aquatic Center will be volunteering in the US Sailing Education Zone at the Extreme Sailing Series San Diego event from October 18 to October 21. In the US Sailing Education Zone, MBAC will join a long list of organizations whose goal is to inspire the next generation to consider STEM fields through fun, educational, and hands-on activities.
Mission Bay Aquatic Center is hosting US Sailing’s STEM Educator Course on Friday, May 18th. The Reach Educator’s Course is a one-day eight hour professional development/training opportunity for teachers and sailing instructors to learn how to implement US Sailing’s STEM program and curriculum called Reach. The Reach modules feature inquiry-based learning and engineering by design processes to provide youth with hands-on integrated learning opportunities that inspire interest in fields of study including physics, marine biology, robotics, technology and more. US Sailing is offering a STEM Educator Course at MBAC on Sunday, April 8th from 8:30am-3:30pm. This November we will be offering a special Sail and Discovery program for 5th through 8th graders. The program will combine modules from US Sailing’s Reach curriculum and hands-on experiences to teach scientific thinking and inspire interest in the STEM concepts while sailing. Read More
MBAC has a new way for you to earn your US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification that will allow you to maximize your time on the water. US Sailing has launched a Basic Keelboat Certification Blended Learning Course that allows you to learn and be tested on introductory sailing topics at your own pace before practicing the skills you learned online on the water. Last fall we began offering a First Sail class as an opportunity to learn about and experience an introduction to sailing before committing to a full-length course. This course has been so popular that we’ve decided to add additional dates to the fall schedule. Read More
