New Year, New You

SUPing in the sunlightWhether you’re still struggling to come up with a great new year’s resolution, or looking for a replacement to the one you may have already broken, we are here to help. We’ve listed some of the most common resolutions and how we can help you can accomplish those goals in 2016 at MBAC.

Row your way to fitnessLose weight, get in shape

Nobody likes a workout that isn’t fun. Change up your normal workout routine by renting a paddleboard or kayak. It’s tough to not be motivated when you get to workout on beautiful Mission Bay in America’s Finest City. Rowing is another great total body workout that is sure to have you sweating by the end of class. Whether you want to learn in your own boat (sculling) or work together in an 8-person boat (sweep) rowing is a great option for losing weight and getting in shape.

Learn something new

Not many people are able to say that they know how to sail or windsurf. Both of these sports are similar and skills that you learn will carry over when you are first starting out. You will find that once you’ve learned how to sail many friends will suddenly surround you and offer to be your “crew” the next time you want to go sailing.  If sailing seems a little too leisurely to you, then try windsurfing. This sport combines the theory of sailing and wind direction with the athletic aspect of surfing (minus the waves, which is a huge plus when you are first learning).  If looking for an even more athletic sport, give surfing, wakeboarding, or wakesurfing a try. If you can’t fit any of our regular classes into your schedule then private lessons are a great way to learn these activities.  Learning any new sport is sure to be a fun, yet rewarding challenge.

Stretching on aS UP BoardBe less stressed

There is nothing better than taking in the sights and sounds of Mission Bay from the water. Whether you are cruising around on a vessel or anchored in the cove, relaxation will instantly take over. If you are looking for an immediate stress relief, SUP Yoga is perfect. While some poses might be a little more difficult on your floating “mat”, your final shavasana is the ultimate mediation from the water.

Spend more time with friends and family

It’s easy to fail at your new year’s resolution if there is no one else to hold you accountable. Get a friend to join you for a surfing class or a paddling adventure. This is a sure way to have fun while reaching your goals.  We are now also offering youth and family classes specifically for families to enjoy together.  MBAC is great for groups of friends or families that are looking for a fun day on the water.
