In cooperation with the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways we will be kicking off National Safe Boating Week on Sunday, May 21st with our annual Safe Boating Day event featuring free activities including kayak and stand up paddleboard lessons and rentals, vessel inspections, and a life jacket giveaway.
This fun event runs from 8am-6pm on May 21st. Rentals must be returned by 5:30pm. Life jackets are first come, first served, while supplies last.
In addition to the boating safety activities there will also be a used equipment sale from 8am-12pm where you can load up on equipment for summer.
Life jackets are essential safety equipment for those spending time around or on the water. Last year drowning was reported as the cause of death in three-fourths of all boating related fatalities. Approximately 85 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. If you do not have a life jacket, pick one up at the free life jacket giveaway (while supplies last) and wear it at all times while boating.
Bring your friends and the entire family down to share in the excitement of preparing for a fun and safe summer boating season. Mission Bay Aquatic Center is the regional boating safety center for the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways.
