Mission Bay Aquatic Center to offer Specialty Enrichment program

Enrichment through sailing

Attend our open house on Thursday, September 22, 10am-12pm or Saturday, September 24, 10am-12pm.

Every year thousands of kids attend boating and watersports programs at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. For many this is their first experience with watersports. Most of them will continue to develop their skills in that sport as they grow. For a lot of them this development will translate to interest in other watersports, the marine environment, or the science behind it. For some, this activity will become a life skill that they will enjoy through the ages. One first grader began his experience with us when he wanted to learn to sail. He eventually became an accomplished sailor, is now teaching sailing while studying engineering at SDSU, and hopes to design better boats after graduating. We never know where these early experiences will lead. All students benefit from a group learning experience that cannot be matched in a classroom, and this is the core reason we do what we do.

We are excited to announce that starting October 11th we will offer a Specialty Program with Inspire Charter School (ICS) to provide academic and enrichment services for students enrolling in ICS. Students will meet with their teacher at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center twice a week during the school year for check-ins, paperwork collection, and academic support. Students will also participate in sailing, paddleboarding, and other various aquatic and marine science-based programs with MBAC instructors. This blend of academic and enrichment activities is designed to give students the academic support they need while benefiting from group learning and enrichment opportunities. Enrichment services are provided at no additional cost to families.

MBAC will be hosting an Open House for interested families on Thursday, September 22 from 10am-12pm and Saturday, September 24 from 10am-12pm. The open house will be an opportunity to ask questions, take a tour of the facility, and meet the program teacher, Cheryl Melucci. While you are here we also invite you to get out on the water for a sailing ride with an MBAC Sailing Instructor.
