The Mission Bay Aquatic Center is offering discounted tickets to the La Jolla Festival of the Arts. For just $10 per ticket you can enjoy a great day of art, food, and music, all while supporting accessible watersports at MBAC. That’s a savings of $4 per ticket! The 2-day festival is held on June 22 & 23 at the UCSD campus and is considered to be one of Southern California’s premiere art events. Attend the La Jolla Festival of the Arts and support accessible watersports at MBAC
For someone with a disability, many of life’s pleasures can become more difficult to access, especially activities like watersports. Waterskiing or kayaking for someone with a spinal injury can be a challenging endeavor, often requiring expensive custom equipment and trained assistance. Despite all of the challenges, every year hundreds of persons with disabilities enjoy watersports at MBAC, thanks greatly in part to funding raised by the Torrey Pines Kiwanis at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts, and a dedicated group of volunteers who make it happen.
The La Jolla Festival of the Arts™, takes place on June 23rd & 24th on the beautiful coastal campus of UC San Diego at Warren Field. The “La Jolla” is one of the most prestigious juried art shows in the country and will once again feature over 190 award winning artists, along with live chalk art creations, art performances, delicious and healthy cuisines, adult beverage libations from Stone Brewery, and live entertainment throughout the weekend. Produced by the Torrey Pines Kiwanis, a non-profit organization that raises funds to support adaptive sports and recreation programs for San Diegans with disabilities, the Festival is a unique opportunity to combine support for adaptive programs and services that help those who have incurred serious and long term injuries, and artists who work hard to bring creativity and imagination to us every day.

Donation from San Diego Yacht Club Sailing Foundation offers access to sailing for at-risk youth
Thanks to a generous grant from the San Diego Yacht Club Sailing Foundation, 30 at-risk and under-served kids, who may not have otherwise had the opportunity, will be able to experience sailing this summer. The grant provides camperships for kids-in-need to participate in a week long sailing camp at The Watersports Camp where they will not only learn to sail, but will also experience the many other benefits of camp, such as building self-esteem and developing leadership skills. MBAC recognized as National MS Society Program Community Partner of the Year
The Southern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has awarded MBAC the Program Community Partner of the Year award. For 10 years MBAC has partnered with the MS Society to hold an event for persons with MS to enjoy a day of sailing on the bay. Each year for the past decade MBAC and the MS Society have teamed up to hold an event whose purpose is to offer persons with MS and their families an opportunity to participate in sailing, an activity that many with MS may not otherwise have had access to. The event was the brain child of a former MBAC employee Bruce Rifkin, who was diagnosed with MS while he was working at MBAC, and Karen Hooper at the NMSS. The two had a vision of for an event that they dubbed The National MS Society All-American Day at the Bay. Since then the event has grown in size over the past decade and now hosts over 250 persons with disabilities and their families from across Southern California. This year is the 11th annual and will be held in May. The National MS Society as an organization is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—from improving the lives of persons with MS, to working toward a world free of multiple sclerosis.
